Perfection v. Excellence

Updated: Feb 5, 2020

Just Do It! It's an easy thing to say, but if you are a perfectionist then you might be finding just doing it rather tricky.

Ask yourself these questions?

  • Do you have trouble launching - a brochure, a campaign, a website, a course - unless you feel it is perfect?

  • Are you always making just one more change, tweak, alteration?

  • Do you want to do it all yourself?

  • Do you feel that no-one understands what's required in the way you do?

If you answered yes to any of the above then you could be considered a perfectionist!

Striving for perfectionism stops you from launching new products, opening up new markets, growing your business, changing to adapt to new opportunities and practices. It will hold you back from being successful.

You will waste time on needless activities, miss out on opportunities, lose out to the competition and be behind the curve.

All that time thinking and not enough doing.

There is a reason why many marketeers favour testing - it lets them learn, work out what is and isn't working, testing over and over again to seek out the best approach. They constantly learn from what they are doing. So the key is to take action, get on with things and learn as you go.

Just Do It!

My top tips to get things moving and not get hung up on the small things are:

  • Strive for excellence, not perfection

  • Know you will make mistakes

  • Take action, don't wait, don't hesitate
